This is the GCS Audition Manual that we voted to adopt at the previous director’s meeting. I have made the appropriate adjustments to this. Please either print a copy for the meeting tomorrow or download a copy. Also, there could have been oversights, please be prepared to discuss any necessary changes to this manual.

Online Band Music PDF Library Resource

Two excellent online resources are the websites www.bandmusicpdf.org and www.bandmusicpdfscans.org. The first is the primary website and the second its sister site. They are a growing repository of classic, turn-of-the-previous-century band literature that is being printed to pdf form for both archival as well as wider use purposes. It is legal for them to do so as well as legal for you to print out and have your band play these pieces because they are now in the public domain by being our of copyright.

Art’s Teacher Resource Guide

This is a teacher’s resource guide of programs offered throughout our area. This guide is meant to provide you with options for guests in your classroom, opportunities outside of school for your students, and potential field trips. This resource was put together by GCS, the Arts Councils of GSO and HP, and the Guilford Education Alliance. Please take a moment to peruse through it and hopefully there is something of which you can use or take advantage.

A Radical Approach to Beginning Band by Robert A. Duke and James L. Byo

The Habits of Musicianship is an introductory method book for the first year of instrumental class instruction. Appropriate for use in middle school beginning band classes and in college instrumental techniques classes, the book embodies an approach to music learning that is in many ways unique. We are distributing the method free of charge through this web site; and although we retain the copyrights to the materials, teachers have blanket permission to make unlimited copies for themselves and for their own students.
