Benjy Springs- Director of Bands at Greensboro College

November 9th Jazz Band Concert at Greensboro College at 10:30am for an hour.  We would like for you to bring your students. 

Please fill out and return registration form if your are interested in coming out.  Playing Basie to Earth Wind and Fire.  Also incorporates the Jazz Faculty.  Very entertaining for students to help motivate them to stay in band.

Buses can come in on Odell Street to drop off students and park at the Reynolds Center. 

Benjy is available to come out and work with Middle and High School students.  

Ed shared a concert with Greensboro College Jazz band and it was a great event. 

Louise Courts -Guilford Education Alliances

The Education  Summit is set for Wednesday, November 9, 7:30am at the Koury Convention Center

On Stage, Louise Courts-

April 19th is the Concert.

Audition Date is January 24th and 25th

No more than 4 minutes for a performance

Early part of February participants will be notified if they are in the show.

No Saturday rehearsal this year. Only for new participants or those who use the Pit Orchestra. 

Juli- Did they decide if there would be an events organizer?

No funding for that.

Juli- None of those performances were shown on GCS TV

Nathan doesn’t know why it hasn’t been put on there. We will send another DVD to the TV Chanel.

Andy- Should we bring them or should there parents?

If possible you should bring them.

Essental Standards Lessons:

Charles Bryant Band 6 lesson plan 7. ML. 2.1

Juli Parker  Band 7 Lesson 7.ML.2.1 Power Grids

Kristen Durrell- Band 7 and 8th Lesson 7. ML.2.2 and 8.ML.2.2

Nathan:

CEU Update 15 to 7.5 in a 5 year cycle.

State board will decide the break down.  The proposal to the legislator you will get no credits for years of teaching.  You will have to have one music credit and one literacy credit.  The literacy credit hasn’t passed yet but will know for sure in November.

Kiyoshi-will we grandfathered in?

No.

Kenny- will national boards count?

Maybe.

Stephanie – What else counts as a literacy credit?

Paideia seminar workshops count.  You can also get your own workshop started for 10 hours.  The elementary arts teachers meet for 10 hours and they work on lesson plans that incorporate reading into lesson. 

Spread the course work out over time will do better than one day. 

Next year there will only be 1 hour meetings and they will only last 1 hour.  Our regular meeting days may change to a Wednesday.  4:30-5:30.

If we did one would you come?

Stephanie when would you do it? Near festival would not be beneficial.

Would it be during the day?

Some say it’s too hard to get them out two days during school.

Nathan- It’s not that much time out of class. 

It would be the end of February or beginning of March. 

Jamboree-Nathan:

Our Jamboree was fantastic. And very impress with our groups.  You do a fantastic job.  Would love to do something to get middle school’s involved in the event. 

Suggested Combined Star Spangled Banner. 

We are at Simeon Stadium for next year’s event and the boosters of the school rotation will run the concessions.

The credits needed for high school graduation has gone up.  US History is splitting in half.  Traditional students have one credit that they can miss. 

Here is a suggestion.  All the classes that you teach are on the NCBPS encourage students to take courses online.   Go online and look at NCBPS at the courses available.

NCMEA Conference is coming up.  See email about outside courses Hang on to agenda and certificate.

All County Band and Orchestra due today.

Andy:

Listening is Monday after school October 24th at 4:15pm

Clinic date is  November 18th and 19th at SWHS

ED:

Co-Curricular Supplement- They have to pay it.  The summer pay check stubs and if you haven’t been paid check. Each year you have to fill out an EEA.  This is for middle and high schools.
