Juli found an old memo from Robin Bursion, former Arts Curriculum Specialist for GCS, that stated guidelines for auditions that was sent to all directors and principals.  The memo stressed the importance of Directors being able to leave school early to get to the auditions so they could have a meeting to stress the importance of professionalism while judging.

Nathan- This year there was a director that got up and started talking to students.  We need to be a lot more professional.

Stephanie and Charles B. had a student that had an instrument that was broken and were faced with a situation where they didn’t know what to do.  Ed. said that the judges should tell them to go to the runner and get it taken care of.

Kristen- Should we send out in mass emails the registrations before the auditions to let directors know who all is trying out to promote more to try out? Directors discussed that they disapprove of this type of email being sent.

Margie- Are we still going to have registration of day of.

Trent- Next year we shouldn’t have day of because of the time slot registration.

Kenny: Directors should do a better job explaining to parents the process of auditions.  What happens when more sign up and people have later auditions and with many no shows?

Trent – We are trying to set up the order of auditions completely random and unbiased.

Ed- We just tried the audition time method to see if it worked.  And we need to vote on if we are going to using next year.

Hal- Purpose to prevent students waiting 4-5 hours waiting to auditions.

Trent- We tried to put student teachers in judging rooms and some directors think that they should not judge at district.

Charles B.- Wants to make sure auditions are random.

Andy- Motions to pilot the audition time slot for middle and high school contingent that it is not a failure at district auditions.

Stefan- motion to table

Andy retracted.

Juli- CDBA meeting is May 4th.  Since there were no clinics there will be plenty of discussion topics.  Also one of the GCS directors is being nominated for award for excellence and we should all be there in attendance to vote for them.

Ed wants to table the jazz auditions / clinic

Stefan motions to have two bands again and have GCS directors direct the 2nd band.

Motion to have taped audition and send out notice to all directors that have students that participate.

Mr. Milton, HPC, is going record the Bb and F improvisation track that students can use for their audition

Rodney- HS directors can you make available your auditions dates for marching band and band camps for the middle school directors?

Ed- Has students that are out of school several days because of band related events and wants us to think about moving all county band in the fall.  He feels like our students are using All District auctions as a way of preparing for All County.  We are getting taken over by other counties and we need to do better.
