Elementary Recruiting

Hello all,

Middle school directors…this is a response from Monday night regarding recruiting in the fifth grade. I have received clearance for you to take instrument dealers into a recruiting session with fifth grade students. There are a few catches but not bad ones. First, Moore Music has agreed wholeheartedly to work with you to provide whatever service you need for them to do. They will help tailor recruiting with you to whatever you need. They are also promising equal or better prices than any other company. I talked at length with the owner today and he is absolutely committed to Guilford County instrumental teachers first. They will be partnering with us to bring you an in-service day as well as offering master classes to your students. More on that later…

Moore will be using graduate students to go out and demonstrate instruments with you at elementary schools. Here is the main catch. I will be getting the information that is to be disseminated approved and that is the information you will have to use. According to GCS, we have to include more than one dealer’s information. I have already shared this with Moore and they understand they will likely receive 90% of the business anyhow as they are the closest music store. Again, you’ll have to use the information I send you to disseminate to the students as it will be approved. Please note that Moore will not be allowed to disseminate the information; however, you can.

The vertical alignment issue we discussed Monday night was resoundingly received by all curriculum officers. They are thanking the arts teachers for taking an active lead on this. They loved the idea of “teacher swap” where elementary and middle school teachers trade places for a period/day or middle and high trade places. This could be a way for you to recruit.

I want your opinions and suggestions on designing programs to go into the elementary schools. I will take your suggestions to Moore Music and share with them. Thanks for all you do!
