Hello all,
Last year, I spoke with Dr. Sandra Mace at UNCG and I set up a research project for her and I to test the sound levels in the band room while I was at Western. I had space and sound-proofing issues that I wanted the county to investigate. The act of me calling in Sandra worked. Maintenance came out to investigate and were waiting on the data from the study.
Dr. Mace has attained approval from GCS to test the sound levels experienced by music teachers in Guilford County Schools. No students will be tested, yet. The reason students are not tested is that teachers are the primary concern for disabling injuries in the county in regard to worker’s comp.
Dr. Mace needs principal approval before she can come into your school, issue you a doseBadge, and test the levels. She has already obtained approval from GCS. I want to ask you all from elementary to high school to please participate in this study. This is the first step. We are hoping to test students in the future. No other school system in the state is conducting research like this and GCS will be the leaders in this research. You do not need to alter your lesson planning nor alter your teaching. It is just as important for elementary teachers to participate as it is for middle and high. Sandra needs the control subject to be the elementary classroom.
You can read her blurb about the study. Please get permission from your principals to conduct this research and e-mail Sandra at stmace@triad.rr.com. Thanks!
